Key Characteristics

• Fins: A key differentiator is the pelvic fins; females have shorter, stubbier pelvic fins, whereas males have noticeably longer, more elongated ones.
• Size: Females typically do not grow as large as males.
• Tail Shape: The female’s tail is less pronouncedly a “diamond” (rhomboid) shape compared to the male’s.
• Sexual Dimorphism: The species exhibits sexual dimorphism, with males becoming more colorful, especially during courtship displays.
• Hermaphroditism: Like other fairy wrasses, all Golden Rhomboidalis Wrasses are protogynous hermaphrodites, meaning they start as females and the dominant individual in a group can transition into a male if needed.
